About Me

I love storytelling. I wrote my first story at age 6. It had no plot but my first grade teacher said it was great anyway. I decided then and there that I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. I’ve never wanted to be anything else.

Well … I will admit to wanting to be two inches taller.

I have no musical talent but love music intensely. My dad played guitar and sang in one band or another all throughout my childhood. When most girls were having sleepovers and learning how to French braid each other’s hair, I was being a roadie at his gigs. I would carry mic stands, detangle extension cords and dance whenever the band played Johnny B. Goode. I’m still better at heavy lifting than braiding.

I have acted in a short film, done mission work in Honduras and been shot with a Taser. I volunteered for all three. Most of the time my hobbies are far more ordinary: reading, clogging, cooking, running, learning to use my sewing machine and trying to teach my dogs better manners.

I have a journalism degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and believe Tar Heel basketball is the greatest sport on earth. I minored in poetry writing, which turned out to be a lot more useful than you might think.

In my real job, I’m a digital marketing manager for a nonprofit. It involves enough writing to keep my 6-year-old self happy.

Or maybe not. But that’s where this website comes in.
